Språkstudion invites language teachers, teacher trainers, administrative staff, or anyone with an interest in language and inclusion, to a talk and workshops with Ugo Marsili, teaching fellow at the University of Reading. Ugo Marsili holds an MA in Linguistic and Literary studies, and is a passionate language teacher committed to questions of diversity and inclusion, working with blind and deaf communities.

 

 

Talk: Deaf Awareness and Blind Awareness in Language Teaching

Workshop 1: Audio Description Applied to Language Teaching: Working out the Four Skills

This is a hands-on workshop focussing on:

  • Descriptions or interpretations?
  • Reinforcing the use of question words at a beginner's level
  • Content reduction for script preparation

 

Workshop 2: Combining Signed and Spoken Language Studies: Tools for Language Teachers

This workshop will be exploring the following topics:

  • Learning vocabulary: start with emotion!
  • Embodying visual language reinforces vocabulary retention
  • Comprehending syntax: switching between modes builds stronger concepts    
  • Slang, gender division, political correctness and inclusion in the different language modes
